A small island of his own.
Masahiro Maruyama spent decades designing for international fashion houses — learning the rules, mastering the conventions. Then he walked away. "I wanted my own small island," he says, "in a place that is not part of that big trend."
What he built draws equally from that experience and from something deeper — wabi-sabi, the Japanese philosophy that finds beauty in imperfection, in transience, in the broken made whole.
Since 2011, he's released a series of collections exploring this idea. Dessin finds beauty in the roughness of the sketch. Broken reconstructs shattered forms — each fracture telling its own story. Kintsugi draws on the Japanese art of repairing pottery with gold, making the break part of the beauty. A body of work unlike anything else.
SCULPT COLLECTION
Inspired by the raw marks of a chisel and the gaps left in clay — the beauty of creation before it is finished. Each frame captures the roughness of the sculpting process, where imperfection becomes the design itself.
