Shaped by Hand, Limited by Complexity
Every frame requires eighteen months and the hands of Sabae's most skilled craftsmen. Barrel polishing with wood, bamboo, and nylon. Secondary cutting to create depth. Hand finishing to preserve what machines would erase. Two hundred pieces per model. Scarcity born from complexity.

From the source.
Tanabiku takes its name from classical Japanese kanji meaning both "trailing clouds against mountains" and "glasses." That linguistic heritage runs through everything.
Kasumi mist patterns—a symbol of eternity found on kimonos and screens for centuries—are etched into the frame's details. Ranma engravings on the temple cores are drawn from temple architecture dating to the eighth century. The brand's kanji is integrated into the hinge. Cultural authenticity in every detail.
Even the packaging carries the same depth. Himeji leather cases, tanned without chemicals by one of Japan's last traditional craftsmen. Paulownia wood boxes. Echizen washi warranty cards from a 1,500-year papermaking tradition. Heritage in everything you touch.

Eighteen Months Journey
Every frame begins as a 10mm cube of Japanese bio-acetate, made from natural cotton and wood cellulose. What happens next is an 18-month journey that's hard to understand without seeing it firsthand.
The hands working the material don't just shape it—they reveal what lies within. Each step in the process uncovers another layer of the acetate, until the material reaches a depth only it can offer.
The Television Cut, deep finishes, and unique engravings give each frame the distinctive signature of authentic Japanese artistry.
What's included
Every frame comes with a traditional Japanese Paulownia wood box, a Himeji leather case processed without chemicals—only water, salt, and rapeseed oil—and an eucalyptus microfiber cloth.
The certificate of authenticity is written on traditional Echizen Washi paper, crafted by Japanese paper artisans and able to last for hundreds of years.
Every component in the package was chosen not only for its quality, but also for its ability to decompose naturally—this is the practical expression of the Japanese Mottainai principle—an experience that honors nature and tradition.

The Collection
Three Models, Two Hundred Pieces Each
